PreSonus Acquires Nimbit

PreSonus Logo

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, July 12, 2012…PreSonus™ Audio Electronics, a leading designer and manufacturer of audio-recording software, hardware, and related accessories, today announced it has acquired Nimbit®, Inc., the pioneers of direct-to-fan sales and promotion for the music industry. The Nimbit acquisition extends PreSonus’ strategic vision of empowering musicians and audio professionals with an ecosystem of products and services.

Along with today’s news of the acquisition, the companies have also unveiled the first integration between their products. PreSonus Studio One™ 2 audio-production software has been updated to add instantaneous delivery to the Nimbit platform, providing the world’s first complete solution for the creation, sales, and promotion of music and audio.

Nimbit, A PreSonus Company

Acquisition Details

To accomplish this integration and take advantage of the companies’ synergies, PreSonus acquired Nimbit, Inc., in April 2012. Both companies are privately held, and the acquisition occurred for an undisclosed sum.

Nimbit will continue independent operations in Massachusetts as a wholly owned subsidiary of PreSonus. Nimbit founders Patrick Faucher and Philip Antoniades, along with CEO Bob Cramer, will continue running day-to-day operations, product specification, and development of the Nimbit platform; and Nimbit’s development, support, retail, and marketing teams all remain with the subsidiary.

“Nimbit’s direct-to-fan platform and underlying technology is light years ahead of the competition,” states PreSonus CEO Jim Mack. “We see such a bright future for their business model, even beyond the music industry, that we decided to acquire the company.”

“This acquisition was the best move to drive our companies to the next stage of growth,” adds Nimbit CEO, Bob Cramer. “But most important, we’re thrilled that the musicians we serve and other stakeholders are destined to see tremendous benefits from putting our companies and products together.”

A Complete Solution

With the addition of Nimbit technology and services, Studio One users can now go from creating their first track to marketing and selling a finished project, all within Studio One and associated Web sites. In short, Studio One has become a complete musician’s solution.

PreSonus Studio One + Nimbit Integration

With PreSonus Studio One and integrated Nimbit, users can now:

  • Instantly sell and promote their music and audio the moment it is created.
  • Sell MP3s, CDs, merchandise, and event tickets through beautiful stores for their Facebook pages, their Web sites, NimbitMusic.com, and services like Jango, FanBridge, and PledgeMusic.
  • Create sharable, interactive promotions for Facebook, Twitter, and email that feature music and video players, messages to fans, and free downloads to drive sales.
  • Grow their fan base and understand their fans better thanks to detailed analytics and sales reporting.

“Our mission has always been to empower musicians, and until today we’ve done it by creating the best tools for music creation and recording,” says PreSonus president and cofounder Jim Odom. “But musicians need more than a good recording to succeed. Nimbit shared our vision of helping musicians, giving them the easiest way to sell and promote music online. Combining our products into a truly complete solution for musicians was a natural fit.”

“We’re thrilled to be working alongside the forward thinking team at PreSonus to make Nimbit a critical piece of the complete ecosystem that they’re creating, and to broaden the reach of our platform,” adds Patrick Faucher, co-founder and CTO of Nimbit, Inc.

Concludes Philip Antoniades, cofounder and president of Nimbit, Inc., “Together we’ll close the gap between creation, promotion and sales—in fact, with our newly announced Studio One integration, it has already started.”

Availability

Starting August 1, 2012, registered Studio One 2 customers will be able to download the free Nimbit Extension from PreSonus Exchange. With the Extension installed, they can sign up for a NimbitFree or NimbitPlus account from within Studio One and can start selling and promoting their music.

The benefits of Nimbit are not limited to PreSonus Studio One customers. Anyone who would like to sell and promote their music, other audio products, and merchandise can sign up at www.nimbit.com or can install the free Nimbit store for Facebook.

Major platform update also includes global store settings for faster set up & management, high-performing and scalable cloud deployment, numerous product catalog and store customization enhancements, in-cart currency converter, and more.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 15, 2012, AUSTIN, TX – Nimbit Inc. (www.nimbit.com) the premier direct-to-fan commerce and promotion solution for the new music business, today issued a major platform update that takes advantage of the Facebook Band/Musician Pages Timeline changes coming March 31st, 2012, streamlines the process of driving fans to artists’ storefronts, and optimizes product and store set up and management for artists.

New Facebook Promo Tool to Drive Fans to Your Storefront

Facebook’s mandatory change to Timeline will take away the Artist’s ability to choose a custom landing page, making it much harder to turn fan engagement into fan support.

Nimbit has addressed this limitation with a new easy-to-use Facebook Promo Tool.  In seconds, artists can easily create sharable, interactive promotions on the Timeline, Ticker and Wall that drive fans into their Facebook Spotlight store with “in post” music and video players, messages to their fans, and direct links to fan rewards such as free downloads.

You can set-up and send a promotion on Facebook in seconds

Fans see a Video or Audio Player in the Ticker, Wall & Timeline, with a link to your promotion, they can also share it

The Promotion links directly to a free download in your store, where fans can leave a tip or shop more

Spotlight™ Store for Facebook Timeline View

Nimbit’s new free Spotlight store for Facebook now automatically resizes to take advantage of the full available width of the new Timeline layout.  Spotlight has been optimized to provide a much more attractive presentation for artists when showcasing their most important album or merch, upcoming gigs, personal video messages to fans and more; while also making their complete product catalog available for direct sale on Facebook. Spotlight is further enhanced with fan engagement tools such as free track for email, Tip-in-Cart, social sharing and more.

Improved Performance, Store Management, & Additional Updates

  • The entire Nimbit platform has been retooled for scalable, high performance in the cloud resulting in a more responsive dashboard, faster loading storefronts, faster order processing, and automatic scaling when you become wildly successful.
  • We’ve simplified Store management and set up with global settings. Artists can now update, configure, and control their NimbitMusic, Facebook, PledgeMusic, FanBridge, and embedded Instant Band Site Nimbit stores with one group of controls.  In addition, subscribers to premium Nimbit plans (NimbitIndie & NimbitPro) have the additional flexibility of custom settings for each storefront.
  • Artists now see live previews of their customizations to the Spotlight, Store, and Checkout settings as they are made, eliminating guesswork or the need to visit their store each time to confirm the changes.
  • Over 30 additional usability enhancements including:

Tip-In-Cart An Immediate Success: Nimbit Artists Earn 5.8% More

Nimbit’s new Tip-In-Cart feature has proven to have substantial benefits for our artists.  This feature provides a “Support This Artist” slider in the checkout of Nimbit stores which allows fans to leave an additional tip when making a purchase or accessing a free download. This feature was added under the assumption that some fans may not want to “buy” but they do want to actively “support” artists they like, and “super-fans” would like more ways to support their favorite artists.

Since its release on December 21st, 2011 the Tip-In-Cart™ results have been astounding:

  • 1 in 20 purchases have included a tip (5.2%)
  • Tips average $7.84 on purchases and $4.15 on free downloads
  • Tips received have ranged from $1 – $100 (the full range currently offered)
  • Nimbit artists earned 5.8% more revenue over this period as a result of tips

About PledgeMusic

PledgeMusic was founded by musician Benji Rogers to give artists a DIY option for pursuing and augmenting their careers. The company was designed to be transparent and open, while benefiting artists and fans. Artists will get the funding and promotional support that they need, the fan will get the music and artist interaction that they want at the price that they want to pay, and charities who have scant fundraising resources will receive a percentage of the money raised.
